Iran`s Mansureh Hosseini painting sold at Tehran Art Expo

TEHRAN,Aug.1(MNA) -- A painting by the recently deceased artist Mansureh Hosseini was sold at Tehran Art Expo. Tehran’s Mah-e Mehr Gallery sent the painting to the expo, expo secretary Javad Sadeqi said here on Tuesday. The gallery then asked to withdraw the painting to return it to Hosseini’s heirs after her death was announced, he added. However, the organizers had replied that the artwork was sold before the request was made. The painting was sold for 280 million rials ($22,838) and the money will be handed over to the gallery owner to give it either to the artist’s heirs or to her lawyer, Sadeqi said. Mansureh Hosseini, a pioneer of Iranian modern art, died at the age of 86 in her home last month. The expo, which opened on June 17 in Vahdat Hall, offered works for sale by three different generations of Iranian artists. About 570 works created by over 300 Iranian artists in different fields of visual arts went on display at the two-week-long expo. In addition, sixty galleries from 10 different provinces collaborated with the organizer this year.
