IRIB Launches New Channel In Spanish

Tehran, Jan 31, IRNA – The Iranian state television officially launched its sixth international channel in Spanish on Tuesday. The channel is considered the 12th international channel in world aired in Spanish language. The “Hispan TV” first started to air programs in December 21, 2011 for 16 hours a day and was officially launched today in a ceremony attended by Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and ambassadors of Spanish-speaking countries in Iran including Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia. The channel is to cover the 800-million-strong Spanish speaking community worldwide. Before “Hispan TV”, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) aired five international channels only one of which, Sahar, broadcast programs in six living languages. This TV network aims to reinforce the cultural bonds, and to bridge the gap with the peoples of Spanish-speaking countries, and to introduce Islamic Iran’s traditions, through airing programs for Hispanic addresses round the clock. It will air programs in the fields of news, films and series, documentaries, reports, exclusive interviews, in addition to different political, social, and economic programs from Tehran./end
