IRNA Official, UN Secretary-General’s Spokesman Discuss Media Co-op

New York, May 12, IRNA – Deputy Managing Director of IRNA Gholamhossein Eslamifard on Friday called for United Nations cooperation to help the media direct the public opinion toward international peace. In a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman Martin Nesirky, Eslamifard said the United Nations is expected to help major regional news agencies especially IRNA promote international peace. The IRNA official elaborated on professional activities of the Islamic Republic News Agency and said that IRNA representative office in New York attaches importance to the news related to the United Nations Secretary-General and the Security Council. He called for enhanced cooperation between the UN media team and IRNA’s representative office in New York. Nesirky said that coverage of news related to the United Nations is sensitive and somewhat complicated. He said that the UN media team welcomes cooperation with news agencies and would cooperate with IRNA’s representative office in New York to help boost the quality and quantity of reporting from the UN headquarters in New York./end
