Ital-Thai boss granted bail on charges of illegal possession of firearms

BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) – The Criminal Court granted bail to President of Italian-Thai Development Premchai Karnasuta on charges of illegal possession of firearms, seized at his house in Bangkok. Accused wildlife poacher, Mr Premchai denied charges and was granted bail on a bond of 200,000 baht. During the search at his home in Huai Khwang on Feb 7, the police found rifles and also two pairs of elephant tusks. Mr Premchai and his wife were also charged for unlawful possession of those elephant tusks. The legal action followed the arrest of Mr Premchai, the construction tycoon in the Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi province in early February with companions, weapons and wildlife carcasses including that of a black leopard near his camp site. Prosecutors on Monday indicted Premchai on six charges in the poaching case. Six charges include colluding to hunt protected wildlife and possessing protected wildlife carcasses. (TNA)
