Japan helps Laos in water supply development

VIENTIANE,03.12.2012 (KPL)- The Ministry of Public Works and Transport signed an agreement on technical cooperation in water supply with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on March 2, Vientiane. The agreement was signed by Head of Architecture and Urban Planning Department, Mr. Khamthavy Thaiphachanh and Mr. Fumihiko Okikura, Head of JICA’s Mission Leader to Laos, in the presence of concerned official of both sides. The project is aimed at developing the capacity building for water supply teams under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the water supply enterprises to ensure to adequately provide water to public nationwide. “Approximately 80 % of population nationwide will use water supply by 2020 according to the plan,” said Mr. Mr. Khamthavy. Under the next five-year cooperation term, the JICA will send the Japanese technical teamwork to Laos to train the Lao technical team on the improvement of water supply system.
