Justice Minister participates in Arab Justice Ministers Council meeting

Manama, Nov. 26 (BNA): Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, HE Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, participated today in the 36th virtual meeting of the Arab Justice Ministers Council. Addressing the meeting, he praised the efforts of the member states in boosting Arab and international judicial cooperation in combating terrorism and organised crimes. He pointed out the importance of unifying Arab legislation in this respect, in light of the recommendations endorsed by the Arab Justice Ministers Council in its previous session presided by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The meeting today reviewed the Arab Convention for Combating Terrorism and its implementation mechanism, the Arab Convention on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, and the Arab Convention on Combating Information Technology Offences. It also discussed the issue of criminalizing ransom payment to terrorists, bolstering Arab and international cooperation in combating terrorism, and the Arab Convention Against Corruption.
The meeting also discussed the draft Arab convention on the conditions of refugees in the Arab countries, the preparation of an Arab draft guiding law to prevent hate-inciting discourse, the preparation of a draft Arab protocol to curb illicit proliferation of weapons in the Arabian region that complements the Arab agreement to combat transnational organised crime, and a draft Arab framework law to protect and support the rights of the elderly.
The meeting was attended by Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Undersecretary Judge Isa Sami Al-Mennai, Assistant Undersecretary for Court Affairs and Documentation Professor Mohammed Abdul Rahim Bujiri, Implementation Director Professor Jasim Hassan Buhamoud, and Director of the Office of HE the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Hamad Ali Haji.
