Justice Minister praises royal pardon

Manama, Mar. 14 (BNA): The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa lauded the royal decree pardoning some convicts for humanitarian reasons. He said the royal pardon has covered 901 convicts while broadening the scope of enforcing alternative punishment to cover 585 inmates. He added that the royal pardon takes into consideration personal and family conditions of the convicts as well as humanitarian reasons, particularly concerning the female inmates, young ones and patients who need special care. The Justice Minister affirmed that the royal directives to expand applying alternative punishment reflects development of the judicial and reform system in the Kingdom of Bahrain by providing rehabilitation opportunities for the convicts aimed at reintegrating them in social life as positive individuals to participate in national building. He stressed expanding enforcement of alternative punishment with the participation of the public and private sectors and the civil society institutions.
