Kabul Attack A Cowardly And Barbaric Act- OIC Sec Gen

By Nabilah Saleh KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (Bernama) -- Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General, Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, described the attack at Zanbaq Square, near the diplomatic area in Afghanistan’s Kabul on Wednesday, which killed at least 90 people and injured hundreds of others, as cowardly and barbaric. “Taking the lives of innocent people, especially in the month of Ramadan, the month of sacrifice and forgiveness, goes against the core values of any civilisation,” he said in an OIC statement. He extended his condolences to the government and people of Afghanistan as well as the families of the victims over the tragedy and urged them not to relent in their efforts in combating terrorism. He reiterated the stand of the 57-member organisation, which denounced any acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all forms, and rejected any justifications for terrorism. According to CNN, the death toll has risen to at least 90, with another 400 people injured. The attack was the second massive bombing in Kabul this month, which came a few days into the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Reports said that the Taliban has denied responsibility for the blast, but the Afghan intelligence service believes a Pakistani group aligned with the Taliban carried out the attack. -- BERNAMA Copy
