Kahramaa Launches Activities of 10th Annual Celebration of National Program Tarsheed

Doha, July 03 (QNA) - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" launched today the activities of the 10th annual celebration of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency "Tarsheed". HE President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, said in his speech: "The 10th annual celebration of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency "Tarsheed", held under the kind patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, with the honor and presence of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, is clear evidence of the State of Qatar's continued pursuit of the elements of comprehensive development, and it constitutes a new starting point on the road to sustainability in accordance with Qatar Vision 2030. His Excellency added: "The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" is proud of the achievement that has been achieved over a decade, noting that their vision towards achieving sustainability in environmental development and confronting climate change began more than ten years ago, and that many of their initiatives regarding the regulations and specifications and the reduction of harmful carbon emissions, through the national program "Tarsheed", have been transformed into international laws, to be applied globally within the framework of the strategic goals of sustainability of the United Nations". His Excellency pointed out that the first stage of "Tarsheed" was an anticipation of tomorrow, and a future vision, to set the road map, in which work was done to formulate the basic regulations regulating work towards energy efficiency and sustainability of resources from electricity and water, achieving the energy mix, moving towards renewable energy and reducing harmful emissions. His Excellency continued, "The actual results of these efforts, as part of its second phase during the period from 2018 to 2021, showed a material return to the state of more than four billion riyals, adding: "However, our real achievement is to instill and bring the concept of sustainability and climate change closer to the new generation, through Access to more than 1,000 schools of all stages, as well as the change in the behavior of citizens, residents and partners from all sectors in the country, towards adopting a culture of rationalization and energy efficiency". His Excellency pointed out that climate and environmental action is one of the most important issues on the global scene, and in this context, "Tarsheed" has been considered, since its launch on Earth Day in 2012, a basic for reducing harmful carbon emissions to reach the goal of 8 million tons annually by 2030, with permanent consideration for the social and economic growth of the country, and to maintain a high level of well-being for all. His Excellency noted that today's celebration of "KAHRAMAA" is a motive and an incentive for all, and a tangible evidence on the ground, to follow this approach towards the sustainability of resources and quality services of electricity and water in light of increased demand and successive economic changes with international commitments to reduce Qatar's carbon footprint, which requires solidarity and cooperation from all governmental and private bodies and agencies.
