Kabul, November 24, 2009 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan will allocate $50 millions for training thousands of Afghan specialists. In the next 5 years, domestic universities and colleges are to teach 200 Afghan students annually. The special agreement on cooperation in education was signed during an official visit by Kazakhstan’s Secretary of State and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kanat Saudabayev to Kabul.
Kanat Saudabayev, secretary of state, Minister for Foreign Affairs of RK:
- Like our president said, it is impossible to solve the Afghan issues by military means only. It is necessary to attract the people of Afghanistan which is why Kazakhstan renders it such solid humanitarian assistance.
Kazakhstan has been assisting Afghanistan for many years now. Over the past few years, the Republic has sent around 2.5 million US dollars for the restoration of afghan roads, the construction of schools and hospitals and supplied 2 thousand tonnes of wheat. In compliance with a special cooperation programme, Kazakhstan will send another 1.5 million US dollars to Afghanistan this year. While in Kabul, Kanat Saudabayev also held talks with his afghan opposite number, Foreign Minister Rangin Spanta. As a result, the sides agreed on extended cooperation in education.
Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Minister for Education and Science of RK:
- 200 and 100 Afghan students will take courses in medicine and engineering respectively. Another 150 and 140 students will be studying teacher training and military courses accordingly. Kazakhstan will pay for their study, accommodation and provide scholarships.
