Karim Massimov’s negotiations as part of CST meeting in China

Beijing, October 15, 2009 (Khabar) - While in Beijing, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov met with the President of China as well as Russian and Kyrgyz Prime Ministers and the first deputy premier of Iran. All those meetings were held as part of the meeting of prime Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty member-states.
Karim Massimov also passed on Nursultan Nazarbayev’s congratulations on the 60th anniversary of The People’s Republic of China to the Chinese President, Hu Jintao. The Chinese leader, in return, approved Karim Massimov’s idea of holding a meeting of finance ministers and heads of central banks in Almaty. During his talks with the Russian Prime Minister, the sides touched upon the creation of the customs union of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus.

Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russian Federation:
- Kazakhstan always was one of leaders and initiators of integration on the post-Soviet territory. And if we manage to leave on this absolutely new degree of quality of interaction it would be the big advance in achievement of these integration purposes about which we speak so much.

Karim Massimov noted that Russia remains to be Kazakhstan’s main partner and the issues of the customs union’s creation are being discussed at the highest level.
During the negotiations with the Kyrgyz Prime Minister, Igor Chudinov, the parties discussed the issues of energy supplies. At the talks with the first deputy Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammad Reza Rahimi, Karim Massimov focused on the construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway line. Kazakhstan’s premier also summarized the results of his trip to the People’s Republic of China.

Karim Massimov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan:
- This year, the head of state issued two articles. The first one is called the “The keys to the crisis” and the second one is entitled “the fifth path”. When those articles appeared, they were basically theoretical. However, those solutions that were applied at the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Prime Ministers, such as the idea of holding a meeting of finance ministers and heads of central banks in Almaty. There, the sides will discuss the issues of payment between the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member-states and their national currencies. Here, we are talking about the creation of some regional currency for a mutual trade. Kazakhstan’s tenge, Russian Rouble and the Chinese Yuan will be linked in some way. I think it is tangible fulfillment of those tasks which were given before. Another important aspect is that Russia and China are part of the G 20 and the SCO. The solutions and decisions of our president and his authority have once again played a key role.

The Prime Minister also said that at the SCO meeting in Beijing, they also talked about the issues of the trans-border river quality control. The sides also agreed that China’s will allot a quota for importing Kazakhstan grain which is another great achievement for Kazakhstan, said the Premier.
