Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev visits Moscow
Moscow, October 26, 2009 (Khabar) - The Kazakhstan Senate Speaker, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev has arrived in Moscow for an official visit. Whilst there, Mr Tokayev met the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk. Kazakhstan’s Senate Speaker also talked to his Russian counterpart – the Speaker of the Russian Council of Federation, Sergei Mironov. The sides discussed the issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the cooperation of the two countries in terms of Kazakhstan’s forth-coming presidency in the OSCE. The parties also touched upon the joint preparation for the celebration of the 65th anniversary of victory in the Second World War.
Sergei Mironov, Russian Council of Federation speaker:
- We have had a look through the whole range of bilateral relations between our states. First of all, we discussed our inter-parliamentary as well as political and economic cooperation of which, we both held a high opinion.
Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan Senate Speaker:
- Relations between the Senate and Council of Federation – the two upper chambers – are the basis of the allied cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia. Our parliamentary ties will certainly develop further.
