Kazakh Prosecutor General visits Czech Republic and Slovakia

Bratislava, October 28, 2009 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor-General’s Office is expanding international cooperation with European countries in the legal area. Prague and Bratislava are also striving for joint work in crime prevention. The prosecutor general of the Slovak Republic Dobroslav Trnka noted the importance of cooperation of the offices of the two countries during the meeting with his Kazakh colleague Kairat Mami. They signed an agreement on cooperation, according to which, they will be rendering mutual legal assistance in the area of organized crime prevention and legalization of income derived from criminal activity.

Dobroslav Trnka, Slovak Republic Prosecutor General:
- We are cooperating with both Western and Eastern countries. Kazakhstan is a priority country for us. We will be rendering legal assistance to each other as much as possible. We are aware of and support the future presidency of your country in the OSCE and believe that our relations will expand far beyond the strict limits of international cooperation.

The signing of a memorandum with the General Prosecutor’s Office of Slovakia provides for the organization of educational in-depth training courses for specialists as well as the exchange of work and information experience on national legislation, acting justice and advanced methods of investigation.

Kairat Mami, Kazakhstan Prosecutor General:
- One of the mechanisms for the fight against criminality is the prevention of trans-national crimes as well as the settlement of issues of money laundering. Today’s agreement is directed at solving these problems in particular. I don’t think that citizens of the Czech Republic or Slovakia will be brought to trial for pilfering in Kazakhstan. The specific feature of our cooperation lies in the fact that we can resort to aid and advice in legal matters, in particular, the extradition of criminals who committed more serious crimes in Kazakhstan if they are hiding in the European territory and in these states in particular.

The general prosecutor of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami met his Czech colleague Renata Vesecka in Prague the day before. She was elected as the chairman of the EU General Prosecutors’ Union last year. They signed a memorandum on cooperation between the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Supreme State Office of Public Prosecutor of the Czech Republic.
