Kazakhstan’s presidency in OSCE

Astana, October 21, 2009 (Khabar) - The secretary of state and foreign affairs minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev has discussed the issues of future presidency in OSCE with constant OSCE representatives from Belgium, Finland, Russia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Slovenia and the USA.
The main points of the meeting were initiatives of Kazakhstan in connection with 35th anniversary of Helsinki Act signing, 20 years of Paris Charter for new Europe and the 65th anniversary of Second World War ending. At autumn sessions of Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE in Athens it was offered to spend the summit concerning general safety in Kazakhstan. Specialists have also discussed the actions planned for 2010. The future presidency of Kazakhstan in the Organization on safety and cooperation in Europe will bring new directions of OSCE activity. The confidence of it was expressed by ambassadors of the Organization at a meeting in Astana with the Senate Chairman Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. Experts have carried to a zone of special attention a situation in Afghanistan, the decision of conflict situations on Caucasus, and also economic and environmental problems of the Central Asia.

Antti Turunen, Permanent Representative of Finland to the OSCE:
- Kazakhstan is the first Central Asian country that is going to head OSCE. This is horonable mission. We have come to get known with the preparing to the presidency, and also to offer our help in building of future work strategy.

Permanent representatives to the OSCE have also been acknowledged to the issues of human rights in Kazakhstan. They have visited the office of Secretary of Human Rights Commission Tastemir Abishev. The guests have paid special attention to the action plan in human right sphere until 2012 that has no analogs in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Also they have seen the Concept of legal policy until 2020. OSCE representatives have positively estimated the actions of the Commission.
