Kazakhstan is getting prepared to the presidency in OSCE
Almaty, October 21, 2009 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan will present the program of presidency at the first January session of OSCE Constant Council. Now foreign policy department of the country brings in it finishing touches. The program leans against three priority measurements of OSCE: military-political, humanitarian and economic-ecological. Particular attention is given to the first direction. It includes a question of struggle against terrorism, the organized crime, the drug traffic, and distribution of weapons of mass destruction. The solution of military conflicts at the territory of OSCE and opposition to new calls and threats are mainstreams in military-political measurement of the Organization on safety and cooperation in Europe. And Kazakhstan as its future chairman has already defined priorities in this sphere. First is the maintenance of stability on territory of OSCE and the Central Asia. The main source of threat is Afghanistan. OSCE takes up the problems of post disputed rehabilitation of this country and now waits for the new offers from Kazakhstan as from the leader of region.

- The role of Central Asia rapidly grows in the world because Afhanistan, the main threat source, is located very close to its territory. Moreover oils pipes will go trough Central Asia.
It is literally on the eve of presidency in OSCE Kazakhstan again has drawn attention of the world community. Joint tactical exercises of CSTO Collective forces of operative reaction «Interaction-2009» have passed in the country. 14 000 military men from Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia have taken part in them.
Bolat Sultanov, director of Kazakhstan Institute of Strategical Investigations:
- Considering the role of Kazakhstan in CSTO we can say that we have a unique chance to join the initiatives of these international and regional organizations to prevent coming of these threats to the region and the European Union.
Also Kazakhstan will continue its work on creation of European security treaty. This document was initiated by Russia, first step of its realization were made by Greece.
Alexey Kelchevskiy, head of OSCE center in Astana:
- There are many questions that should be solved. But that does not mean that everyone waits for Kazakhstan to solve them, it just means that Kazakhstan as a head of OSCE should stimulate the continuation of discussion, dialogue and working on these issues successfully.
Specialists also call the nuclear non-proliferation an important sphere to work on. Kazakhstan, the future head of OSCE, offers to maintain the Non-proliferation treaty.
