KEPCO wins US$187 mln wind power project from Jordan
SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's state-run power company Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said Monday it has clinched a US$187 million deal to build a 90-megawatt wind power plant in Jordan's Fujeij.
Under the deal signed with Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, KEPCO will begin construction of the planned wind farm later in the year for completion by 2015.
"It is a build, own and operate deal where (KEPCO) will construct a 90-megawatt wind power plant and operate it for the next 20 years," the company said in a press release.
The project is the first of a series to take place in Jordan, which seeks to build wind turbines generating up to 1,800 megawatts of electricity by 2020.
"By winning the project, KEPCO has now expanded its business portfolio in the Middle East from thermal and nuclear power plants to renewable energy," KEPCO said. "It will also continue to expand its overseas renewable energy projects."
