Khalid bin Hamad hails athletics achievement

Manama, Mar. 26(BNA): The Bahrain National Athletics female team achieved a global achievement by winning the third position with a bronze medal, in the 42nd IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Uganda, which continues the march of achievements that strengthen Bahrain's position on the global sports map. The team composed of runners Ruth Jebet, Rose Chelimo, Eunice Chumba and Desi Mokonin, who managed to achieve third position in the 10KM cross country race with 58 points, placing the National team behind Kenya, which came in first position with 10 Points and Ethiopia in second place with 45 points. Runner Ruth Jebet has achieved the best position among Bahraini runners by finishing in seventh position with a recorded time of 32:49 minutes and she is the only runner whose name came after the Kenyan runner who took the 1st till 6th positions. On this occasion, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of West Asian Athletics Federation, President of Bahrain Athletics Association, extended his deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, May God Protect Him. His Highness also offered his deepest congratulations to His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister; Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women; and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee. HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa affirmed that this achievement is a continuation of the series of achievements by Bahraini athletes in foreign participations, thanks to the support by the wise leaderships and HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. His Highness pointed out that Bahraini excellence in the cross country race embodies the leading position of Bahraini athletics and reflects the merit and excellence of Bahraini athletics in the Mother of all games. His Highness praised the performance of the two athletes, as well as the high spirit of sportsmanship and determination to accomplish a global achievement. He also praised the performance of the other runners, technical and administrative members for their clear efforts which placed the Kingdom on the crowning podium. HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa added by saying that the council board of the Association will continue to support male and female athletes to continue the march of Bahraini sports successes. He expressed his gratitude at the continuing qualitative achievements which reflect the efforts exerted by the Association, technical and administrative members to raise the Kingdom's banner in foreign participations. The Mixed Relay team composed of Sadik Mikhou, Dalila Abdulkadir, Benson Kiplagat Seurei and Tigist Gashaw. They achieved fifth position at an international level with a recorded time of 23:30 Mark.
