Khalifa International Award for Date Palm declares winners of international photography competition

ABU DHABI, 30th March, 2017 (WAM) -- The General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation has declared the winners of the 8th International Photography Competition 2017, titled "Date Palm Through the Eyes of the World", organised by the award under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award, in co-operation with the Abu Dhabi International Photography Association.
This came during a press statement by Dr. Abdul Wahab Zayed, Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, after the announcement of results, where Taysir Mahdi from Iraq won first place, Anas Al-Thib of Oman won second place, and Abdullah Al-Eidi from Saudi Arabia won third place.
The 8th cycle of the award witnessed fierce competition, with the participation of 744 photographers who took 800 photographs, representing 19 countries from around the world.
"We are following the directives of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, in establishing human relationships with the environment, especially with date palm trees, and we appreciate his support for the creative photographers who participated in the competition from all over the world, by using photography to raise public awareness about the importance of date palms and to exchange experiences between photographers from all over the world, as well as highlighting the heritage, environment and tourism components of date palms, encouraging human relations with the land and agriculture," Dr. Zayed said.
He added that the honouring ceremony of the competition winners and the photo gallery will be held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, and he appreciated the efforts made by participating photographers in this competition.
"Our support for the competition, in its previous and current cycles as a specialised international competition, is part of our goals and priorities to promote the photography movement in the UAE and to encourage all contributions to promote the work of local artists and photographers internationally, therefore creating a positive space by promoting knowledge and interest in creative practices " said Bader Al Nomani, Representative of the International Federation of Photographic Art, FIAP, in the UAE, and head of the competition jury. http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302605855
