King Hamad Global Centre signs MoU with Russia’s DOC-RI

Moscow, July 30 (BNA): The King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dialogue of Civilisations Research Institute in Russia (DOC-RI). Signed here by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Chairman of Supervisory Board of DOC-RI, Vladimir Yakunin, the MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides, as well as develop their research and academic capabilities in the fields of dialogue of civilissations and peaceful co-existence. Under the MoU, the two sides will establish a long-term relationship to enhance the exchange of information and expertise between their researchers and academics and activate joint research among the researchers, decision-makers and others. Aspects of bilateral cooperation will include the exchange of delegations and visits between Bahrain and Russia, during which workshops will be held and research papers will be presented to discuss issues of mutual interest. Under the MoU, joint research programmes will be launched to promote the concepts of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and dialogue among civilisations and religions, and each party shall invite the other to participate in relevant local or international conferences. King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence board chairman expressed pleasure at signing the MoU with a prestigious international institution, with which, he said, the King Hamad Global Centre shares the goals of creating a sustainable peaceful world through promoting the values of peaceful co-existence among peoples and communities. Dr. Shaikh Khalid said that peaceful co-existence would be possible only through a political leadership that believes in tolerance and the importance of human beings, noting that two elements disinguish Bahrain from other countries, namely His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s belief in the importance of inter-civilisational dialogue, and the awareness of the Bahraini people of the importance of its deep-rooted peaceful co-existence tradition, which, he stressed, has entitled Bahrain to be the capital of peaceful co-existence in the region. He indicated that Bahrain and Russia share a common vision, that is supported by their leaderships, on the need to achieve peaceful co-existence, noting that the attemps of conspirators in the region to disseminate lies and fabricated news require the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence to intensify its efforts to project the real image of Bahrain to the world, as well as its loving and cohesive social fabric. DOC-RI Supervisory Board Chairman, Vladimir Yakunin, expressed admiration for the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence’s goals and visions that reflect Bahrain’s image as a pioneering regional role model for social tolerance and harmony. Yakunin said that the two countries share several common features that allow them to promote dialogue among civilisations, which will make cooperation between two parties easier. He stressed that societies nowadays suffer from the misuse of the Internet and social media networks to disseminate fallacies and lies for the sake of distabilising societies, calling for concerted efforts to put an end to attempts to spread false news and tendentious rumours. He expressed desire to meet Bahrainis to exchange expertise and knowledge about the concepts of tolerance, co-existence and dialogue among civilisations, as well as to benefit from Bahrain’s rich experience in this field.
