Korat zoo denies rumour over bird flu outbreak
NAKHON RATCHASIMA, March 25 (TNA) - The Nakhon Ratchasima zoo denied a rumour about the bird flu outbreak at the zoo, saying the disease was detected there last year and now, it is free from the bird flu.
In response to the rumour, circulated on social media that the avian flu outbreak kills several kinds of animals at the Nakhon Ratchasima zoo, the zoo director, Thewin Ratanawongsawat said that the latest bird flu virus was detected in civets in October last year and it was believed to come from animal feed, made of chicken.
The zoo has applied strict measures to eradicate the disease under cooperation with public health and livestock agencies. He confirmed the zoo is currently free from the bird flu.
The zoo director added that months ago, poultry died in the zoo’s surrounding area, however, the livestock officials investigated the deaths and confirmed it was not caused by the bird flu.
Samples of animal carcasses at the zoo are collected for the test and no bird flu is found. (TNA)
