SEJONG, April 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will showcase its craftwork featuring a unique and modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean beauty during Milan Design Week set to open next week, the government said Monday.
The government-led exhibit "Beopgochangshin of Korean Craft 2018" will be part of the annual fair set to run from April 17 to 22 at Triennale Design Museum in Milan, Italy. The Korean word "beopgochangshin" means creating new things by building on the old.
On display will be 25 craftwork by 34 Korean artists representing the country, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and its affiliate Korea Craft and Design Foundation said.
They are mostly contemporary Korean furniture items for everyday use that make full use of traditional aesthetics and will be exhibited with traditional furniture, such as a medicine cabinet and a portable dining table, according to officials.
The annual fair is the largest trade fair of its kind in the world, with about 300,000 people from 150 countries visiting every year. It showcases the latest in designs of furniture and crafts from around the world. South Korea has been participating in the fair since 2013.
