Kumys festival held in Almaty
Almaty, June 01, 2009 (Khabar) - The first kumys festival has been held in Almaty. The history of this beverage is estimated at 6 thousand years and its healing properties have been known from the earliest times. 360 million litres of various drinks are being produced in Kazakhstan on a daily basis and the share of kumys comes to only about one percent. The new generation is not interested in it, state specialists.
Akhmetbek Nursila, president of “Sarzhaylau” kumys centre:
- An average life interval of our population equals 59 years. People would have lived till 80-90 years as our ancestors if they had drunk kumys and shubat and I’m sure that our nation could be remarkable for longevity thanks to drinking these beverages, not to mention the fact that we could be wealthy as it’s a renewable resource.
Japanese are requesting to deliver unlimited volumes of kumys while in France 200 grams of this drink costs 8 euros which makes up more than 1, 5 thousand tenge. It is also being sold at drugstores. Both local and foreign specialists state that kumys is a king among sour-milk products.
