Labour Day in Thailand
BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) -- Thai workers across the country mark the Labour Day with religious activities and May Day rally calling for better welfare.
Like in previous years, labor rights networks call on the government for fair wage, improved social welfare and livelihood of the laborers.
Over 1,000 workers, state enterprise employees and business owners joined a Labour Day March in Chiang Mai City, beginning from Chiang Mai Zoo to Doi Suthep.
They also made donations for a school building construction project by the Thai Red Cross Society.
Head of labour groups raised their demands for higher pension for state enterprise employees to the same level as state officials.
In Uttaradit, provincial administration held a Buddhist ceremony on the Labor Day Tuesday morning giving alms to 99 monks with workers’ networks.
More than 1,000 workers and provincial labour agencies in Bueng Kan staged a campaign rally against illegal labor and drugs.
Some of the campaigners donated blood Labour unions in the southern Songkhal province released a statement stating their demands for social security reforms, anti-corruption and working environment improvement.
They held National Labour Day march through the streets of Hat Yai district demanding for reforms. (TNA)
