Lack Of Knowledge, Emotional Instability Lead Youths To Extremism
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- A lack of knowledge and inability to control emotions are some of the factors causing youths to be easily influenced by extremist groups.
The president of youth organisation Pertubuhan Belia Perdana, Suhail Mohamed Kamaruddin said the meaning of the term, 'jihad' was being manipulated by militant groups, causing youths to be caught in extremist ideologies.
"Jihad has a broad meaning and is not confined to war or fights. It must be done in a fair and peaceful manner, not violent or cruel," he said as a guest in the Ruang Bicara programme by Bernama News Channel (a 24-hour television news channel owned by national news agency Bernama) Tuesday night.
"Youths involved in extremism are individuals with the potential to contribute, but have chosen the wrong way to do so," he said.
He urged religious experts to be more active in explaining the true meaning of jihad to youths.
