Language policy development in Kazakhstan

Astana, October 24, 2009 (Khabar) - Development of languages should become an organic part of the general policy directed on social, economic and cultural development of the country. The recent statement of the State secretary – Minister for Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabaev about necessity to strictly observe the Constitution and the law on languages has found support among deputies of Parliament.

Husain Valiyev, deputy of Parliament’s Senate, RK:
- Possibility to nationalities to communicate with help of Russian language is good. But we live in Kazakhstan and Kazakh language is state language according the Constitution, and it is logically that every nationality living in our country knows state language. Kazakhs, the Kazakh nationality, should meet half-way to create this language environment in dialogue at level of youth, the senior, average generation. And I always welcome and concern those moments when there are children of other nationality in school with Kazakh language of education, this language already will be practically native for them, and they can together with the contemporaries studying, being trained, to know then in the long term this language in perfection.

Viktor Kiyanskiy, deputy of Parliament’s Majilis, RK:
- We should create a complementary field of mutual relations among people of different nationalities, since morning meeting and speaking to each other in Kazakh. There are different models of the approach to active studying of a state language; we have the most plastic model considering the benevolent relation to all ethnics which exist. Not without reason we say Assembly of the people of Kazakhstan. Today there will be a real association of the nation around a state language also.
