Lao Govt hopes US$70 million for CPAP 2012-2015

VIENTIANE,03.09.2012 (KPL) -Lao government expected receiving grant aid of over US$70 million to drive the Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) in the period of 2012-2015. Planning and Investment Deputy Minister, Mr Somchith Inthamith released at a final review between UNDP-Laos CPAP 2007-2011 and launch of UNDP-Laos CPAP 2012-2015 in Vientiane on Wednesday. The fund will be undertaken by the United Nations Development Programme to carry out the CPAP, he said, adding that the next five-year plan will focus on five main works including sustainable economic growth, natural resources management, public governance administration, unexplored ordnance clearance and human resources development. UNDP Resident Representative to Laos, Mr Minh Pham said the objective of today meeting are to take stock of what has been achieved against the original CPAP plan, what lessons we have learned and what good practices we have demonstrated, and in light of this, launch the new Country Programme Document (CPD) and look at how UNDP plans to support the government over the next five years. Over the past five years, Lao government and UNDP have successfully implemented almost projects with the initiative fund of US$54.6 million but the real practice exceeded over US$14 million, said Mr Somchith. So far, the cooperation between Lao government and UNDP has been effective and successful.
