Laotians wary over impacts from Thailand’s political protests

BANGKOK, November 11 (TNA) - A number of Laotian people have crossed the border to buy consumer products from the Thai side for their stocks, expressing their concerns over, probably, negative impacts from ongoing political protests in Thailand, even after The Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) suggested in its ruling on Monday afternoon (Thailand's time) that both Thailand and Cambodia jointly work out a solution on their dispute on an area in the vicinity of the Preah Vihear Temple along their common border. People from the Lao side, mostly traders, crowded border markets in Thailand's northeastern Nakhon Phanom province on Monday to buy their consumer supplies, causing trading near border checkpoints at Tha Uthen and That Phanom districts became more active. The traders from Laos reportedly purchased and stocked up more goods from the Thai side for sales during the upcoming Loy Krathong and the New Year festivals, having doubled sale volumes at the border markets subsequently.
