At least 12 killed in Loei road accident

LOEI, April 7 (TNA) - At least 12 sugar-cane cutting workers have died and several others injured after a truck carrying them slid off a road in Thailand’s northeastern Loei province early Monday morning. The fatal road accident took place on a sharp corner in Wang Saphung district’s Nong Ngue sub-district at about 3 am this morning. Lert Mankhong, a driver of the truck, said he lost control of his truck while turning at the curve, causing the vehicle to slide off the road and flip over. Lert, who was slightly injured in the accident, said the truck was carrying the workers from Sukhothai province in the central plain to work in sugarcane fields in Nong Khai province in the northeast. According to the 50-year old driver, the truck carried a total of 28 sugar-cane cutting workers and 7 motorcycles. Nine workers were killed at the scene after falling from the truck. The other three workers were pronounced dead at hospitals. The injured victims, numbering more than 10, were sent to hospitals for treatment. (TNA)
