Lebanon Voices Concern over Ghosn Arrest: Reports

Jerusalem, Nov. 29 (Jiji Press)--Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil has summoned the Japanese ambassador to Lebanon to convey his concern over the arrest of Carlos Ghosn in Japan, according to local media reports. The Lebanese minister reportedly told the ambassador, Matahiro Yamaguchi, on Tuesday that there are many doubts about the Nov. 19 arrest of Ghosn by Japanese prosecutors . Ghosn, who has Lebanese citizenship, is in detention in Tokyo on suspicion of understating his pay at Nissan Motor Co. <7201>. He was dismissed as Nissan chairman on Nov. 22 over the scandal. The Lebanese minister demanded that Japanese authorities respect Ghosn's rights, including allowing his family to visit him, and finish the investigation promptly, according to the reports. In the Middle Eastern nation, Ghosn is praised as an internationally successful business figure. The Lebanese Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement calling for the case to be handled in a fair manner in Japan. END
