Malaysia Continues To Promote Moderation To Address Conflicts

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will continue to promote moderation as an approach to bridge differences and address the root causes of conflicts, said Foreign Ministry secretary-general Ramlan Ibrahim.
He said moderation was a tool that could be used to find solutions for global peace and development, including for the ummah.
"It encourages peaceful settlement and non-use of force in disputes as it calls for mutual respect and understanding and dialogue,” he said at the ministry's breaking-of-fast event hosted by Foreign Minister Anifah Aman (front, left) here Tuesday, which was attended by foreign diplomats, among others.
Ramlan said Malaysia had also pursued initiatives in the areas of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to non-state actors; peacebuilding in post-conflict countries; and climate change.
"Malaysia had also left a lasting contribution in strengthening the international framework in the protection of children from abduction in situations of armed conflict through Resolution 2225," he said.
On Malaysia's two-year tenure as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Ramlan said Malaysia on its part had successfully completed it.
"We are proud to have discharged the responsibility of membership professionally, guided by principles such as moderation, inclusiveness and transparency," said Ramlan, who was Malaysia's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York. (photoBERNAMA)
