Malaysia To Host 2018 ACC
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has been picked to host the 2018 Asia Cycling Championship (2018 ACC), after Thailand and South Korea withdrew their bid.
Malaysian National Cycling Federation president Abu Samah Abd Wahab said the unanimous decision was made during the 2016 ACC Executive Management Committee meeting in Qatar Sunday.
He said Malaysia's selection as host paved the way for three national racers, namely Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom and Fatehah Mustapa to collect qualifying points to the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
"At the outset, Thailand and South Korea were adamant about going ahead with their bids, forcing Malaysian representative Amarjit Singh to give a comprehensive explanation.
"In the explanation, Amarjit was successful in convincing the selection panel that Malaysia needed to host the 2018 ACC on merit," he said in a statement Monday.
According to Abu Samah, Malaysia would only organise the track event while Myanmar was picked as host for the highway event.
It is understood 'Velodrom Rakyat' (Sports activity location) in Ipoh, Perak state was picked as the venue for the championship.
