KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and the other 192 global postal member countries have joined forces to promote the development of integrated, inclusive and innovative global e-Commerce supply chain at the 26th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress in Istanbul, Turkey.
Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Jailani Johari, who was in Turkey attending the congress, signed the UPU Acts on behalf of the Malaysian government on Wednesday.
The acts also included the UPU Postal Payment Services Agreement (PPSA), which would govern the international exchanges of postal items between designated postal operators worldwide.
"The signing of the UPU Acts reflects the Government of Malaysia’s commitment towards continuous growth in the postal service industry and the development of an integrated postal e-Commerce supply chain.
"...which will directly benefit the rakyat (people) and the micro, small and medium enterprises in Malaysia” said Jailani in a statement to Bernama here, Friday.
Malaysia on Wednesday was elected to the Council of Administration (CA) in the UPU, the main decision-making body of the United Nation's specialised agency responsible for the development and cooperation of international postal service.
Malaysia won the seat at the 26th UPU Congress which is now held in Istanbul from Oct 1 to 7.
Jailani, who was also Malaysia's Head of Delegation to the Congress, said through the said Council, Malaysia will provide its postal expertise and resources in promoting global postal development agenda in line with the Istanbul Postal Strategy (2017-2020) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
