Malaysia Lobbying For Universal Postal Union Council Member Seat
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia aspires to win a membership seat in the Council of Administration (CA) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), says Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Jailani Johari.
He said he was currently participating in the 26th Universal Postal Congress in Istanbul, Turkey from Oct 1 to 7.
"We are lobbying for the support of UPU member countries to enable Malaysia to compete for a seat on the Council of Administration," he told Bernama Monday.
Malaysia is a member of the Universal Postal Union since Sept 17, 1958, which is an international organisation headquartered in Berne, Switzerland.
Jailani said the UPU was the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players.
Since becoming a member of UPU, Malaysia is among developing countries which actively play a broad range of roles providing policies and strategies and technical cooperation for the development of the international postal service.
Malaysia is among the first countries to implement the Radio Frequency Identification, Global Monitoring System and Quality of Service Fund.
