Malaysia Ready To Take Part In World Food Prize Symposium

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has targetted to participate in the World Food Prize symposium next year to find the best approach for the national agriculture sector. In a statement Thursday, the initiative was stated by Agriculture and Agro-based Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek after attending the Laureate Award Presentation in Iowa, United States recently. Ahmad Shabery said participation in the symposium was the best opportunity to strengthen networking and exchange of views with other nations on agriculture and food. "We have the opportunity to highlight the latest policies and action plans in the agricultural sector which is increasingly competitive and can attract foreign investors to invest in the national agriculture sector," he said. He said Malaysia was among ASEAN nations which were at the forefront in the aspect of food supply assurance and had the leadership to tackle the problem of global famine. "To achieve this aim, the ministry must make a more comprehensive plan. This initiative is very important to realise the government's efforts to ensure adequate, accessible and safe food of quality in the country," he added. -- BERNAMA
