Malaysia Supports IEF's Efforts To Boost Energy Awareness
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is supportive of knowledge-driven forums like the International Energy Forum (IEF) which aims to foster greater awareness and mutual understanding on common energy interests among its members.
In a statement Friday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Abdul Rahman Dahlan, said Malaysia participated in the IEF held in Algeria from Sept 26 to Sept 28, 2016.
"In the IEF, we held discussions with our counterparts from Saudi Arabia on a wide range of topics including potential oil and gas (O&G) cooperation between both countries.
"Our expectation is to see that these initiatives trickle down to the state and regional levels so that the knowledge may spread at home as a result of the heightened awareness level," he said.
Abdul Rahman said overall, Malaysia was aware that the global energy sector, particularly the O&G sector, was facing great challenges.
"These challenges are being addressed professionally and diplomatically in efforts to achieve stability in the oil market.
"These factors are pivotal in economic planning and in addressing sustained future investment," he said.
He said it was Malaysia’s fervent hope that the consensus reached could assist in solving the current and future situation facing the oil and gas industry.
IEF is an international energy body where producers and consumers cooperate and exchange information and gain deeper understanding on energy issues.
