Malaysian Armed Forces To Despatch Medical Team To Assist Rohingya Refugees
GEMAS (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia), Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will be despatching a medical team to assist Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
ATM chief General Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the decision to send the medical team was made after an advance team visited Dhaka on Sept 11 where they had discussions with the Bangladesh government on the Rohingya crisis.
"We have made a decision to send a medical team which will assist NGOs and government agencies involved in humanitarian work for the Rohingya refugees.
“I see the need for us to offer humanitarian assistance without seeing religious, racial or political differences or the like,” he said.
He was speaking to the reporters after opening the Suman Protector 2017 military exercise at the Syed Sirajuddin Camp here Tuesday.
Some 400,000 Rohingya, a Muslim minority ethnic group in Myanmar, are reported to have fled the country to Bangladesh following a military crackdown in the Rakhine state, where most of them live.
