Malaysian Community In Brunei Contributes US$5,959 To Brunei COVID-19 Fund
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian community in Brunei contributed RM24,800 (US$5,959) to the COVID-19 Relief Fund in an effort to support the Brunei government's initiative to meet the challenges of the second wave of COVID-19.
The donation was handed over by Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah to Brunei’s Health Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Maswadi Mohsin on Monday.
"This assistance is an initiative of the Malaysian High Commission together with the Malaysian Citizens’ Association (PWM) in Brunei," said a statement from the high commission Monday.
This marks the Malaysian community’s second contribution to the fund. Previously, they had submitted a contribution of RM31,000 (US$7,449).
Currently, an estimated 30,000 Malaysians live, work and study in Brunei.
According to the statement, the contribution is the seventh corporate social responsibility programme organised by the Malaysian High Commission since the second wave of COVID-19 hit Brunei on August 7, 2021.
Among other programmes that have been organised include food donations to frontline personnel at hospitals and COVID-19 quarantine centres nationwide.
The Malaysian High Commission also donated food baskets to Malaysians affected by COVID-19 via a drive-through concept, and organised a blood donation programme with the Malaysian community as a response to the call of the Blood Donation Centre, Brunei, which is experiencing a shortage of supplies.
To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Brunei is 14,269.
