Malaysian Foreign Ministry Confirms Robbery At Ambassador's Residence In Chile

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 14 (Bernama) -- Wisma Putra (Malaysian Foreign Ministry) Tuesday confirmed media reports that robbers entered the official residence of Malaysia’s ambassador to Chile on Monday and escaped with money, jewellery and other valuables. It said it viewed the attack on one of its envoys with utmost concern. "As front liners of Malaysia’s presence abroad, the security of officers and staff members are of paramount importance,” it said. The media reports said five robbers entered Rumah Malaysia, the residence of Ambassador Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, in Las Condes in the Chilean capital of Santiago in the late evening and tied up Mohamad Rameez, his wife and their five children. Wisma Putra said Santiago police had launched an investigation and taken statements as well as gathered evidence. "The ministry will be pursuing this matter with the relevant authorities in Chile until investigations conclude,” it said. -- BERNAMA
