Malaysia's Support For Tackling Extremism Voiced At Rabat Forum

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), July 12 (Bernama) – Malaysia will state its support for international efforts to promote dialogue, tolerance, peace, co-existence and moderation in tackling extremism, at the two-day 4th Forum of International Organisations: ISESCO, ALESCO AND ABEGS in Rabat, Morocco from Wednesday. Malaysia is represented by the Education Ministry’s secretary-general Alias Ahmad at the forum. Hosted by ISESCO (Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation), the forum is to provide an overview of ISESCO, ALECSO (Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation) and ABEGS (Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States), among the objectives. ISESCO, with its headquarters in Rabat, is an international organisation with the aim of increasing cooperation among member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in driving educational, scientific and cultural development in the Islamic world. It has 52 member states. The Education Ministry said in a statement that Malaysia’s participation in the ISESCO forum was in line with the ministry’s responsibilities as the Malaysian national point of contact for ISESCO and Malaysia's membership in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Executive Board for the 2015-2019 term. According to the statement, Malaysia was also given the opportunity to deliver a speech entitled, “One Umma: One Destiny”, at the forum. -- BERNAMA
