Malaysia's Terengganu State Aims To Be Country's Biggest Producer Of Bee Products

KUALA TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia), July 19 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government is carrying out efforts to make the state a beekeeping hub and in turn, the largest producer of bee products in Malaysia. State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Plantations and Commodities Committee chairman Muhammad Pehimi Yusof said the state government had allocated US$116,654 (RM500,000) for supply of honey production equipment to help entrepreneurs improve on productivity this year. "To achieve this goal it is important for other departments, cooperatives, associations and entrepreneurs to assist in the supply chain network. "Among others we will identify suitable areas, provide training, skills, financial support and coordinate the supply chain activities in making Terengganu the largest producer of bee products." He said this at a dinner held in conjunction with the 2017 International Conference and Exhibition on Stingless Bees here Tuesday night. Also present was International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) secretary-general, who is also the Conference chairman, Dr Abdul Aziz Sheikh Abdul Kadir. -- BERNAMA
