Marine environment protection efforts highlighted

Manama, Mar. 12 (BNA): Deputy Premier His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa today received the Regional Organisation for Protection of Maritime Environment (ROPME)'s CEO Dr. Abdulrahman Abdullah Al-Awadhi. Dr. Al-Awadhi informed His Highness the Deputy Premier about the Organisation's activities and programmes citing Bahrain's significant role in its capacity as the Chairperson of the Organisation's current session in the activation of ROPME's vital role in conservation of marine ecology. HH Shaikh Mohammed commended Dr. Al Awadhi's efforts in bolstering the organisation's work over three decades, asserting the importance of its role and goal since its inception which is to curb environmental pollution, preserve the sustainability of marine and wildlife habitats as humanitarian service to future generations. Dr. Al Awadhi expressed his appreciation of His Highness's effective support in establishing the organization in 1982 which comprises in its membership the region's countries namely Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE. Al Awadhi also lauded His Highness's continuous support to the Bahrain-based Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre (MEMAC) and all of its efforts aimed to conserve marine environment.
