Mass Media and Popular Culture Seminar Kicks off in Doha

Doha, February 28 (QNA) - The activities of the Mass Media and Popular Culture seminar organized by the Heritage Department of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, kicked off Tuesday at Al Sharq Village Hotel. The three-day seminar running to 1st of March, will mainly focus on " the medial role of popular culture in its different shapes and contents along with raising questions on some other issues as "media role of popular culture", and "the role of popular mass communication towards popular culture." A number of specialized professors in media and heritage from many Arab countries as Egypt,Saudi Arabia, UAE, Tunisia, and Jordan will take part in the Seminar. HE Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Dr.Hamad Bin Abdullaziz Al Kuwari said in his address at the inaugural session that the developing of the popular heritage idea and getting inspired by its arts and tools widely contributes to creating a special space for innovation and arts. He the minister added that the official literature nowadays suffers a shortage in the flow of some art genres including Drama works, Narratives, and Epics, of which the reason to set up a seminar on mass media and popular culture comes to be vital. For his part, HE Secretary General of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Heritage, Mubarak bin Nasser Al Khalifa said in a statement on the same occasion that Qatar, under the leadership of HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani is giving more attention and due care to the Popular culture and heritage which is could be felt more clearly through the establishment of many administrations, organizations and museums that contribute to reviving the heritage and spreading it. HE Al Khalifa welcomed the prominent guests and figures attending the seminar saying, "We are highly confident that your researches and studies will enrich the seminar s topics and themese and give it a highly deserved level of importance." Meanwhile Chairman of Heritage administration at the Ministry of Culture, arts and heritage, Hamad Hamdan Al Muhannadi, stressed the administrations keenness on adopting the issue of popular culture with all its different techniques and rules via setting up related seminars, and cultural forums. The seminar which aims to understand the dealing mechanisms of mass popular communications media with ingredients of popular culture, will start a special session this evening with the keynote speaker Dr. Ahmad Ali Morrsi. During the seminar, he will present a paper addressing the relationship between media and folklore. Another key note speaker at the Seminar, Ehssan Al Meysari stressed during a symposium related to Mass media and Popular Culture in a paper about "Journals of Folklore: a wealthy reality and a modest achievement" that gulf countries are urged to address with sincerity and transparency the reality of folklore, the importance of writing, documenting and promoting it through various media.
