Master Salahshur’s Persian calligraphy on show in Italy

Font Size TEHRAN,Feb.23(MNA) – A collection of Persian calligraphy by Iranian master Mohammad Salahshur has been put on display at the ‘Castello della Cuba’ in Palermo. The exhibit, which opened in early February, is part of an event named “Islam in Sicily: a Garden between Two Civilizations”, the Italian News Agency ANSA reported on its website. Organized by the regional Tourism Councilor’s Office and the Orestiadi Foundation in Gibellina, the event documents Sicily’s social, cultural and artistic relations with Islam and the continuous exchanges that have taken place over time and their impact on Mediterranean culture. The exhibit will be running until May in Palermo and Gibellina (Trapani) and has a busy schedule of activities that ranges from exhibitions on Islam, conferences and concerts, to a recital of Arabic poetry. The exhibit will continue from March 30 to May 9 in Baglio Di Stefano in Gibellina and is divided into four sections: ethno-anthropology, archaeology, artistic and multi-media installations, and modern art. Salahshur was born in 1932 in Tehran and took lessons from master calligraphers Hossein Mirkhani, Hassan Zarrinkhat, and Ali-Akbar Kaveh. Salahshur has inscribed the texts of schoolbooks for many years and has also transcribed Quranic schoolbooks, selections from Imam Ali’s (AS) Nahj-ul-Balaghah, as well as the lyrics of Hafez, Khayyam, Sadi, and Baba Taher. The calligrapher has designed and transcribed several tableaus in both Persian and Arabic bearing the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (S), and created over 100 calligraphy works to commemorate the 800th birth anniversary of Molana Jalal ad-Din Rumi.
