MCOT to revamp programmes
BANGKOK, March 3 (TNA) - MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), a largest media organization in Thailand, plans to change its logo and revamp its news and other programmes, starting from April 25, 2012 when the company celebrates the 60th anniversary of its former Thai Television Company and the 35th anniversary of its establishment.
Second vice chairman of the MCOT board Chakraphan Yomchinda, who is also the company's acting president, said that MCOT would change its logo with red colour in background and introduce "videowall", a latest media innovative technology with the length of 20 metres, the longest in the world.
To achieve a corporate goal to improve programmes which match with those of the London-based BBC and the US-based CNN, Chakraphan acknowledged that MCOT has hired an outside firm to design the new logo, noting, however, that he is listening to opinions of the staff before using the new logo officially on April 25, and that the “number 9” still appears on the MCOT new logo and, if approved by the staff, it would be used during the main evening news programme and on the brief news programmes during the day, as well on the company's new products only.
Chakraphan announced that MCOT's reporting crew will be further strengthened, with the introduction of bird’s eye news, or news reporting on helicopter, an MCOT Poll and changing programmes in both its free TV and satellite TV services, and that the change in the programmes will first start with MCOT 1 satellite TV station, in which more education programmes will be offered to viewers.
The MCOT acting president revealed that MCOT also plans to strengthen its domestic news programmes by appointing reporting crew in upcountry who will present interesting news or features in their respective provinces or nearby areas under the "Glocal News" programme, with more details to be released on April 25.
