Measures to prevent accident from overhead cables
BANGKOK, May 3 (TNA) – The board of National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) requires overhead cables to be installed 5.5-5.9 metres above the ground after a dangling cable killed a woman in Khon Kaen.
Takorn Tantasith, NBTC secretary-general held a meeting with telecommunication and TV cable operators to find measures to ensure public safety from overhead cables, which killed a woman when she was riding a motorcycle, passing a dangling cable last month.
The meeting also agreed that overhead cables must be installed 5.5-5.9 metres above the ground.
The NBTC orders inspection overhead cables in big cities first. Unlicensed cables will be pulled down.
The owner of the falling cable confirmed the cable is up to standard, required by the NBTC but a truck hit an overhead cable, causing it to fall to the road, leading to the deadly incident.
The company has compensated the families of the victim and will take a legal action against the person, who knocked the cable, attached to power poles, to the ground. (TNA)
