Media Collaboration Helps PDRM To Provide World-Class Policing Services

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said the cooperation and exchange of information between media organisations and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will help the latter to achieve its goal to provide world-class policing services. He said the cooperation through the concept of 3C - communication, collaboration and creativity - had made the media more relevant in helping the police to convey information accurately and quickly to the public. "Since I became Deputy Inspector-General of Police, I have stressed on the need to establish a media centre in the PDRM and it became a reality on Sept 21, 2010," he said at a PDRM-Media Nite here Friday. He said the media centre had served as a communication channel between the police and members of the public. "I believe many have been dealing and using the PDRM media centre in Bukit Aman," he said adding that the policy had now been extended to state police contingents nationwide. Ismail said in a bid to achieve world-class policing standards, the PDRM had also taken the initiative to study the possibility to formulate good practice guidelines for the police. He said the effort was undertaken with the assistance of the Prime Minister's Department's Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu). He also said that the study would include law enforcement agencies in New York and Philadelphia in the United States, Sweden and England in Europe and Hong Kong and Singapore in Asia. "The findings of this study will be used in the formulation of the guidelines to improve human resources, logistics and finance as a preparation for PDRM to fully implement world-class policing," he said. Meanwhile, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) editor-in-chief Yong Soo Heong, on behalf of the media, said he hoped that the cooperation between the police and the media can be maintained and constantly improved from time to time. He said the cooperation was also in line with the objective of six national key result areas (NKRA) to combat crimes. "We hope this relationship can be maintained properly and the cooperation prolonged," he said. --BERNAMA
