MFA takes care of Thai nationals in Egypt
BANGKOK, July 4 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted Thai nationals, including students, in Egypt in order to provide them with timely assistance in case of emergency, after Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was ousted by the military on Wednesday evening.
Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesman Jakkrit Srivali, who is also Deputy Director-General of the ministry’s Department of Information, told journalists on Thursday that the Thai Embassy in Cairo has been in close touch with the Thai nationals in Egypt, including students, through their societies.
Jakkrit acknowledged, however, that there had been no evacuation of the Thai people in Egypt, as the domestic political problem in the African nation appeared to be limited.
The deputy spokesman said that the Thai people in Egypt had, however, been advised to stay indoors and to stock food and water as a precaution, amid the vulnerable situation in the country.
According to the deputy spokesman, his Ministry of Foreign Affairs will soon announce Thailand's stance on the political situation in Egypt.
Latest international media reports stated that at least five people were killed and 213 others injured in clashes between opponents and supporters of Morsi on Wednesday. (TNA)
