MFA:Int'l affairs challenge Thailand in 2016
BANGKOK, January 4 (TNA) - International affairs are posing challenges for Thailand in 2016, as the country becomes Chairman of G77, a group of developing nations.
Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told journalists of the prospect on Monday, saying that Thailand will persuade 134 member countries of G77 to follow the Sufficiency Economy Principle advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to rely on themselves as a model for
their sustainable development.
Don stated that Thailand is now recognised by the international community and can perform its duty as the G77 Chairman this year, while increasing its role on the international platforms.
Touching on Thailand’s application as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during 2017–2018, the foreign minister revealed that voting will be held during the next UN General Assembly later this year and his ministry is determined to canvass for support.
According to the foreign minister, Thailand has asked every allied country to cooperate in canvassing for votes for the non-permanent member seat of UNSC.
Besides, his ministry has asked UN members to resolve threats confronting the world, as well as problems surrounding the environment and human security. (TNA)
