Middle East Naval Commanders Conference Discusses Maritime Security

Doha, March 22 (QNA) - The Qatar Armed Forces organized today the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) under the theme "Resilience in the Maritime Domain Confronting Asymmetric Threats", with the participation of a large group of commanders, experts, decision-makers and officials in various branches of the naval military in the region and the world. The participants in the conference, which represents the third event of DIMDEX 2022, talked about unmanned maritime defense systems and their techniques and technology, the importance of training in enhancing resilience and steadfastness in the field, and the optimal use of such artificial intelligence-based equipment in monitoring, surveillance, reconnaissance and painting a clear picture of the fields of operations. The speakers at the conference stressed the importance of cooperation, exchange of experiences and information, harnessing the available data to achieve greater resilience, security and stability, as well as protecting the countrys wealth, especially when facing piracy, smuggling, drugs and human trafficking and overfishing, whether within the maritime borders of countries or territorial waters. The speakers discussed also sea mines that still exist as a result of old wars and threatens commercial ships and the consequent increase in shipping and insurance costs, in addition to armed movements that have guided missiles and booby-trapped boats, stressing the need for cooperation between the naval forces in the same region to quickly confront any challenges or urgent problems in the appropriate form and time. The speakers unanimously agreed that no country could achieve maritime security and stability within its territorial waters alone without cooperating with neighboring countries, pointing out that the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) was an important platform for strengthening cooperation in the marine environment in the Middle East and the world. During the conference, Acting Director of the Directorate of Research and Studies at the Center for Strategic Studies of the Armed Forces Brigadier-General (Pilot) Fahad Hamad Al Sulaiti, spoke about "artificial intelligence", defining it as a science that gives machines the ability to carry out tasks required in new circumstances through algorithms that enable them to deal and adapt with situations and events, he also reviewed the role of artificial intelligence applications in facilitating people's lives such as creating and processing texts and its uses in e-commerce and automatic correction of edited materials and texts. The three-day 7th Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2022) was opened Monday under the theme "The most prominent international event for the communication of security and defense professionals", at Qatar National Convention Centre.
