Mild quake jolts Thai West, Srinagarindra Dam unaffected
KANCHANABURI, THAILAND, September 29 (TNA) - A mild earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale hit Thailand’s western Kanchanaburi Province Friday night, but it posed no effect to the structure of the Srinagarindra Dam in the province.
Wanit Saengsuwan, Director of the Srinagarindra Dam, told journalists Saturday that the quake occurred in Thong Pha Phum district, with its epicenter located at some 57 kilometer away from the Srinagarindra Dam.
Wanit assured that the dam was unaffected by the mild quake, insisting that a quake recording device at the dam indicated that no tremor in areas near the dam Friday night.
According to the dam director, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has installed a quake recording device at all its dam to ensure the safety of the dams’ structure against any earthquake. (TNA)
